On September 30th, 2016, Project ALS attended the wildly successful Hope Gala to defeat ALS in Raleigh, NC, put together by Team Chris Combs. Chris was diagnosed with ALS in May, 2016 and has since, with his wife Gena, been partnering with Project ALS to raise money to find a cure. The gala featured a performance by country music entertainer Scotty McCreery as well as a live and silent auction and a raffle. It was an emotional night filled with passionate supporters of the Combs family and guests intent on putting an end to ALS.
The Hope Gala was assembled to do just as the name suggests: fuel hope that a treatment or cure for ALS can someday be created. Thanks to the hard work put in by Team Chris Combs, $1 million was raised prior to and at the gala, obliterating the $750,000 goal. Project ALS will use 100 percent of the proceeds raised to fund an ALS therapeutics program at Columbia University.
Together with Chris, Gena, and their three children, we are determined to continue funding research that can help us learn more about ALS and how to end it. If you would like to learn more about the Combs family and their initiative against ALS, please visit www.teamchriscombs.org.
