Remembering Leigh Vierstra: Her Inspiring Words at Tables Turned on ALS in Madison

Three weeks ago, Project ALS had the honor of hosting Tables Turned on ALS: A Gourmet Evening in Madison, Wisconsin, featuring the incredible culinary talents of chefs Dan Jacobs, Dan Van Rite, and Dan Bonanno. This evening was made possible by the remarkable efforts of Leigh Vierstra.

Leigh courageously shared her personal journey—having lost both her mother and sister to ALS, and facing her own early symptoms of the disease. Her kindness, resilience, and the love she radiated touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

It is with profound sadness that we share the news of Leigh’s passing on Sunday, September 29th.

Leigh was more than a beloved member of our Project ALS family; she was a teacher, a fierce advocate for the power of science, and a true champion in our fight against ALS.

We invite you to reflect on Leigh’s powerful story and carry forward the lessons she left us.
