“In 2010, our dear friend Eric McLaren was diagnosed with ALS. Eric, his wife Kim, and their three boys (now men!) EJ, Tyler, & Cael, were very close friends of ours. Eric fought hard, but we ultimately lost him in 2014.
Eric was a friend to many and a prominent figure in our community; his unique stature certainly raised awareness around this dreaded disease. When Valerie and Meredith [Project ALS cofounders] came to meet with Eric & speak at the school where he was principal, the connection was immediate. The McLaren family & their broader community embraced the Project ALS mission. We formed a permanent bond. The passion, the need, the logical approach, & the determination of Project ALS all are reasons that we stay involved.
Eric believed that the answers are in the science. Supporting Project ALS is our community’s way of continuing Eric’s battle against ALS. We look forward to the day when we celebrate the extinction of ALS. We are so thankful to Project ALS for their work and leadership.“
