Stu Hendel, his family, friends, and colleagues, raised $1.2 million for promising ALS drug testing on January 22nd at the Hunt & Fish Club in New York at his second annual fundraiser and cocktail party. Stu, Senior Managing Director at Lightkeeper, LLC and a leader in the financial world, was diagnosed with ALS in 2016 and since then has worked diligently with Project ALS to fundraise for research.
Funds raised though the Hendel Initiative will support the Project ALS Pre-Clinical Core at Columbia University and additional pre-clinical testing at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University. Directed by renowned doctors Serge Przedborski and Hynek Wichterle, the Pre-Clinical Core tests drugs thoroughly before they reach clinical trial, thereby improving the chances of trial drugs’ efficacy. In the past year, the Pre-Clinical Core has tested four novel ALS drugs in an array of ALS models.
